A fine Edo Period Japanese wooden Hibachi. These were traditionally used to provide some heat to keep the kettle warm for visitors in a Japanese home. This example has the usual copper liner for the hot ash. Fine Gilded lacquer and shell decoration highlight this collectors item. Some damage to the shell inlay. This is one of many items we have purchased from the Cheng Huan Collection removed from Stockton House in Wiltshire.
