Rare and Large 18thC Burmese Bronze, Shan Jambupati Crowned Buddha Sculpture, with a single line inscription translated [Takuu La, April 1773]. Originally made as a memorial or to celebrate a birth i would have thought.  This fine sculpture would have once sat in a family pagoda in Burma, many of which fell into disrepair or damaged by earthquake . This sculpture was discovered in a old property in Wiltshire, it was in a dreadful mess and filthy dirty.  At some time in its life it has been dropped and the crown and Ushnisha has received damage and bent which we have left as further damage will take place if trying to straighten. As nearly always the attendant monk figures were missing/lost so we have found a late 19thC pair to replace them, these are totally detachable and no alterations have been undertaken to the Buddha to replace them, so you can remove if desired. also damage to the left side top of the crown, this we have had made in patinated silver and is detachable also. It sits on the original old wooden base that we received it with and have not removed it at all. I am overwhelmed at the carefully restored sculpture, the patination after cleaning and the overall look. The pictures show stages of the restoration. The Buddha is seated in the ‘calling the earth to witness’ mudra. This is one of the best on the market currently and a great investment piece with prices in this area rising fast.  Similar sculpture in the V&A, Victoria and Albert Museum no.
