Stunning Late 18thC Burmese Seated Buddha on an Elephant Altar, hand carved from hardwood and finished in lacquer with some traces of original gilding. This example has an unopened relic niche at the back of the sculpture, these are normally opened by people looking for treasure! In its long history it has had many small repairs and without these it would have vanished many years ago. I would have thought this sculpture came out of Burma in the early 20thC to add something special to fine Edwardian interior. A great investment sculpture with a perfect peaceful relaxing look. From a German collection and a i paid a good friend to drive there to collect it by hand!
