Fine Hoysala School 12th – 13thC Stone Altar Carving of Venugopala, Krishna. Hand carved from a black Basalt type of stone in relief with some nice detail. it looks to have had a hard life as you can see in the pictures, Please examime. There is a lump of cement covering the left hands? It still has the mortace to the base where it would have once sat in a slot within a niche. A great centre piece to any Indian Hindu sculpture collection. The original stand was to badly damaged so could require a new one if prefered.
