This particular Sculpture depicts the Buddha displaying the Yamaka-pātihāriya or “Twin Miracle”,
whereby he simultaneously emmited fire and water from his body (an apparently contradictory phenomena) to demonstrate his enlightenment, where uncertainty still existed in his father’s kingdom about his ostensible spiritual achievements.
