Late 18thC Hand Carved Wooden Chinese Daoist Ancestor Figure with some polychrome decoration traces. The figure is seated in a horseshoe chair. Lovely well loved patination and colour. Not highly collectable but this is a good example, better than most. The Dao, which means “the way,” is the natural order of the universe. Daoist’s strive to be in harmony with this natural order. Rather than following particular rules, Daoist’s cultivate a sense of naturalness, called ziran. By being in tune with this, they believe they can avoid violence, suffering, and struggle.
